BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Here's a look at the week ahead (March 2-8) for the Bridgewater State University athletics teams:
FRIDAY
WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD, NEICAAA Championships, at the Reggie Lewis Center, 11:00 AM: The Bears will be represented at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championships in Boston, Mass.
The meet features athletes from all three divisions in the region. The first event will be the 60-meter hurdles in the pentathlon at 11 a.m. and the day concludes with the distance medley relay at 5:10 p.m.
Last season, BSU's All-NEICAAA performers included Naomi Cass (Westport, Mass.) in the 5,000, Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.), Grace Inacio (Taunton, Mass.) in the 200 and Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) in the high jump.
MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD, NEICAAA Championships, at the Reggie Lewis Center, 11:15 AM: The Bears travel to Boston, Mass. for the NEICAAA meet, competing with Divisions I and II athletes over two days.
The first event of the day is the heptathlon 60-meter dash at 11:15 a.m. with the last event the distance medley relay at 2:30 p.m.
Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.) was fourth in the 200 last season to earn All-NEICAAA honors while Corey Stalters, now an assistant coach, was eighth in the shot put.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE, at home, Southern Maine, 4:00 PM: The Bears (1-2) go for a second straight win when they host the Huskies at Mazzaferro Field.
BSU dropped its first two home games before winning at the University of New England last Friday.
The Huskies won their opener over Worcester State and have defeated the Bears the past two years, 11-10 and 13-11.
BSU will travel to Clearwater, Fla., for a pair of games during spring break after this one.
SATURDAY
EQUESTRIAN, at the Grand Champion Show Stables, 9:00 AM: After taking part in five shows last October and November, the Bears resume their schedule in a show hosted by Babson College in Bellingham, Mass.
WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD, at the Tufts Last Chance Meet, 10:00 AM: The Bears will be represented at the meet in Medford, Mass.
MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & fIELD, at the Tufts Last Chance Meet, 10:00 AM: BSU athletes will be at Tufts University for a meet.
WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD, NEICAAA Championships, 10:30 AM: The Bears conclude two days of competition at the Reggie Lewis Center.
There will be 13 events, starting at 10:30 a.m. with the 60 hurdles and ending and 3:25 p.m. with the 4x400 relay race.
MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD, NEICAAA Championships, 10:00 AM: The Bears finish a two-day stay at the Reggie Lewis Center.
The first event is the 60 hurdles in the heptathlon and the day finishes with the 4x400 relay at 3:05 p.m.
BASEBALL, at Myrtle Beach, S.C., Saint Joseph, 3:00 and 6:00 PM: The Bears begin the season with a trip to South Carolina for eight games.
BSU opens with a doubleheader against Saint Joseph's University, located on Long Island. The games are at Crosley Field at the Cal Ripken Experience.
The Golden Eagles went 25-17 year ago and were the No. 3 seed in the Skyline Conference tournament.
SOFTBALL, at Little River, S.C., the University of Pikeville, 3:00 PM: BSU's first game of the season is at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in South Carolina.
BSU opens against a team from Kentucky which is off to a 3-3 start. The two teams played in 2023 when the Bears losing to Pikeville, 8-5.
BSU will be playing 11 games in South Carolina.
SUNDAY
EQUESTRIAN, at the Horsebarn Hill, 9:00 AM: BSU travels to Storrs, Conn., for the final show before the IHSA Zone 1, Region 4 Championships at the end of the month.
BASEBALL, at Myrtle Beach, S.C., Delaware Valley, 10:00 AM: The Bears meet the Aggies for the first time since 2017 in Vero Beach, Fla., when BSU was edged, 3-2, in their initial matchup.
Delaware Valley, a member of the Middle Atlantic Conference, is off to a 4-0 start. The game will be at Conway High School.
SOFTBALL, at Little River, S.C., Delaware Valley, Noon; Lancaster Bible, 2:00: The Bears play their first doubleheader of the season.
BSU opens against the Aggies of the Middle Atlantic Conference.
The teams played twice in the past three years in South Carolina, the Bears winning in 2023, 17-7, and losing last March, 6-0.
In the second game, BSU goes against the Chargers in the first meeting between the two teams.
