BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Here's a look at the week ahead (March 30-April 5) for the Bridgewater State University athletics teams:
TUESDAY
MEN'S TENNIS, at Roger Williams, 3:00 PM: The Bears travel to Bristol, R.I., for the second of four consecutive non-conference matches.
BSU (2-3) lost to Roger Williams, 7-0, last season.
The Hawks are 10-4 and 5-0 in the Conference of New England. The Bears have dropped nine straight to Roger Williams since winning in 2006.
SOFTBALL, at home, Plymouth State (DH), 3:00 PM: The Bears and Panthers meet for the first time since March 10, 2020 in Clermont, Fla., a 6-5 BSU win.
Plymouth State is visiting Bridgewater for the first time since losing a doubleheader in 1996.
The Bears are 11-5 with nine wins in the last 11 games this month while the Panthers are 6-10 and 1-1 in the Little East.
BASEBALL, at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (DH), 4:00 PM: The teams that met in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference championship game last spring meet in a doubleheader at Commodore William R. Hendy Field.
BSU lost to Mass. Maritime on March 24, 7-3, in a game that was moved from Bridgewater to Buzzards Bay, Mass.
The Bears are 8-5 and 3-1 in the MASCAC with three wins in a row while the Buccaneers are 10-6 and 2-2 in the conference.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE, at Plymouth State, 4:00 PM: BSU travels to Panther Field in New Hampshire with a two-game winning streak. The Bears are 3-6 overall and 2-0 on the road.
The Panthers (2-5) won against BSU, 16-10, last season and have won 10 of the last 12 meetings.
Coach Erica Adams is one win away from 100 at BSU.
THURSDAY
MEN'S TENNIS, at home, Curry, 3:00 PM: The Bears defeated the Colonels (0-10), 7-0, last season.
FRIDAY
BASEBALL, at home, Framingham State, 3:00 PM: The Bears open a three-game series with the Rams (2-9, seven straight losses).
BSU won two of three games against Framingham State last season.
SATURDAY
EQUESTRIAN, at the IHSA Zone 1 Championships, 9:00 AM: Senior Emily Desmond (Braintree, Mass.) and junior Abigail Abbott (Wareham, Mass.) will take part in the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association Zone 1 Championships at the Mount Holyoke College Equestrian Center.
Desmond also qualified in 2024 while Abbott will be making her debut.
Participants will be looking to qualify for the nationals in North Carolina May 1-3.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD, at the Amherst Spring Fling, 10:00 AM: The Bears begin April by taking part in the Amherst College meet at Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium.
Last season as a freshman, BSU's Bella Grover (Warren, Mass.) won the high jump and was third in the 400-meter hurdles at the meet.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD, at the Amherst Spring Fling, 10:00 AM: BSU will be at Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium for the meet hosted by Amherst College.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE, at home, Worcester State, Noon: The Bears entertain the Lancers at Mazzaferro Field in a MASCAC matchup.
Worcester State eliminated BSU from the conference tournament, 19-14, in the semifinal round a year ago.
The Bears had defeated the Lancers (off to a 5-4 start) during the regular season, 15-8.
BASEBALL, at Framingham State (DH), 1:00 PM: The Bears play a twinbill against the Rams to end a week of five games, including two doubleheaders.
SOFTBALL, at Framingham State (DH), 1:00 PM: The teams split a pair of games last season.
The Rams are 5-9 and 1-1 in the conference with four wins in the last six games.
