BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior cornerback Brandon Medeiros has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Defensive Player of the Week.
A native of Somerset, Massachusetts, Medeiros notched an interception and a pass breakup to go along with four tackles (three solo) including an assisted tackle for loss in the Bears’ dramatic 41-35 overtime win over MASCAC foe Anna Maria College. His third quarter interception set up the Bears' fifth scoring drive of the day which resulted in an Andrew Cloutman 12-yard touchdown run.
Through nine games this season, Medeiros has recorded 27 tackles (20 solo) with four tackles for loss, three interceptions, four pass breakups and a blocked kick. He is currently tied for third among the MASCAC leaders in pass breakups.
In 40 games over four seasons with the Bears, Medeiros has amassed 127 tackles (99 solo) with 9 1/2 tackles for loss, four interceptions, 20 pass breakups and two blocked kicks. As a freshman in 2022, he blocked a punt and recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown against the University of New England.
The MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week distinction marks the first of Medeiros' career.
The BSU football team is currently 5-4 on the season and 5-3 in the MASCAC. The Bears wrap up the 2025 campaign on Saturday when the travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy for the 46th Annual Cranberry Bowl.
