BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Kaua De Assis has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Rookie Swimmer of the Week.

A native of Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, Deassis placed second in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 100 freestyle this past weekend in the Bears' home opener against Wheaton College. He posted a time of 56.91 seconds in the 100 fly and 52.00 seconds in the 100 free.

Deassis also recorded a 23.73 seconds split on the Bears' fourth-place 200 freestyle relay (1:34.51) squad and a 57.22 butterfly split on the fourth-place 400 medley relay (3:52.42) team.

The Little East Rookie Swimmer of the Week honor marks the first of Deassis' career.

The BSU men's swimming and diving team is back in action on Sunday, November 9th when the Bears head to Saint Michael's College for a tri-meet with the host Purple Knights as well as the Mariners of Maine Maritime Academy.
