BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team ended a two-match losing streak with a non-conference win.
The Bears defeated Curry College, 6-1, Monday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts. The match had been postponed last week due to the weather.
BSU improved to 3-4 with the win on Senior Day while the Colonials, a member of the Conference of New England, are now 0-13.
The Bears won all three doubles matches to open the match.
Senior Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) and sophomore Khiem Nguyen (Burlington, Vt.) won at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, over freshmen Carson Bakunas (Middleton, Mass.) and Brady Antaya (Methuen, Mass.).
At No. 2, freshmen Will Horton (Lakeville, Mass.) and Ryan Abreu (Lakeville, Mass.) won over senior Eric Flynn (Wenham, Mass.) and junior Maitreya Abend (West Whately, Mass.), 6-0.
BSU seniors Ryan Hebert (Taunton, Mass.) and Tyler Barros (Somerset, Mass.) scored a 6-0 victory over senior Jake Perrotte (Colchester, Vt.) and Jacob Adler.
Hebert prevailed at No. 1 singles over Flynn, 6-3, 6-1, while BSU freshman Jayton Woods (Kingston, Mass.) was a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) winner over Bakunas at No. 2.
Hebert improved to 4-2 on the season as he now has at least one win at three different singles flights (one, three and six).
Abreu defeated Antaya, 6-2, 3-6, 11-9, at No. 3 while Barros was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Perrotte at No. 4 and freshman Jesse Perron (Northbridge, Mass.) beat Adler, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6. For Perron, the victory marked the first of his collegiate career.
Curry's lone victory came at No. 5 singles where Abend defeated freshman Daniel Parath (Millbury, Mass.), 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
BSU honored Barros, Beatrice and Hebert on Senior Day.
The Bears have another non-conference match Wednesday at 3 p.m., hosting Thomas College of Maine.
Curry will be in New Hampshire on Wednesday to go against Colby-Sawyer at 3:30 p.m.
