Will Horton Named Little East Men's Tennis Co-Player & Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Will Horton has been selected as both the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Tennis Co-Player and Rookie of the Week.

A native of Lakeville, Massachusetts, Horton posted a 3-0 record at number one singles and finished 2-1 at second doubles in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bears.

Horton notched a 6-1, 6-3 straight set win over Travis Chartier at #1 singles and teamed with senior Ryan Hebert (Taunton, Mass.) for a 7-5 triumph at second doubles in the Bears' 5-2 Little East victory over Rhode Island College. He also earned a 6-0, 6-0 straight set win over Tanner Ciufo at the top singles flight in the Bears' 7-0 LEC victory at VTSU Castleton, and teamed with Hebert for a 6-1 triumph at second doubles against the Spartans.

Horton also recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jacob Faulise at #1 singles in the Bears' 5-2 non-conference win at Salve Regina University.

In 13 matches this season, Horton is 9-4 (5-1 LEC) in singles play competing exclusively at the top flight as well as 9-4 (6-0 LEC) in second doubles competition.

The Little East Player of the Week selection marks the third of the season for Horton while the LEC Rookie of the Week honor is his fifth.

The BSU men's tennis team wrapped up regular season play with an overall record of 10-4 including a perfect 6-0 Little East mark. The top seed in this week's LEC Tournament, the Bears will host a semifinal round game on Thursday afternoon at three o'clock from the Rosen Courts.
