BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Freshman Alex Huynh (Stoughton, Mass.) won a pair of events for the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team at the BSU Bears Invitational Friday.
Seven of his teammates finished first in the meet, which included Regis College, Wheaton College, Gordon College and Worcester State University.
Huynh, a Division III All-America during the indoor season, was first in the high jump and the long jump to lead the Bears.
He had a leap of six feet, 2.75 inches (1.90m) in the high jump and his triple jump was 21 feet, four inches (6.50m).
Winning one event each were graduate student Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.), senior Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.), junior Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.), senior Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.), sophomore Brian Vale (Assonet, Mass.), sophomore Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.) and junior Mitchell Parent (Cumberland Center, Maine).
Stalters was first in the javelin with a throw of 224 feet, 1 inch (68.30m). He set the school record earlier this season with a throw of 224 feet, 5 inches (68.40m).
Adigwe won the 400 hurdles in 58.40 seconds and was second in the 110 hurdles in 14.80 seconds.
King was the winner in the pole vault (11'0.25"/3.36m). King was also fourth 110 hurdles in 15.92 seconds.
McBirney was first in the 1,500 with a time of 4:09.17 and Mooney was the winner in the 100-meter dash in 11 seconds in addition to placing second in the 200 in 21.96 seconds.
Vale had a time of 2:04.84 to win the 800 and Parent finished first in the 5,000 in 16:04.19.
BSU had four of the top five finishers in the pole valut with freshmen Drew Alves (Taunton, Mass.) and Ryan Anglin (Walpole, Mass) tying for third (9'2.25"/2.80m) with sophomore Ryan McCarthy (Weymouth, Mass.) fifth (8'8.25"/2.65m) in the event won by King.
Sophomore Aydan Fournier (Assonet, Mass.) took second in the 1,500 with a time of 4:11.58 and was second in the 800 in 2:06.80.
Junior Chris Beaulieu (Monson, Mass.) was second in the 400 in 51.75 seconds and third in the long jump (20'4.25"6.20m).
Junior Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.) finished second in the triple jump (38'5.75"/11.73m).
Freshman Chase Noel (Bridgewater, Mass.) was a second-place finisher in the discus (110'4"/33.63m) while junior Colin Daly (Easton, Mass.) was second in the hammer throw (131'10"/40.19m).
Also placing second were senior Kenny Goodwin (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the 5,000 with a time of 16:08.99 and sophomore Nathan Branco (Fairhaven, Mass.) in the 400 hurdles (58.55).
Third-place finishers included sophomore Chandler Doehler (Berkley, Mass.) in the shot put (41'/12.50m), senior Charles Dakai (Milville, Mass.) in the 400 with a time of 52.43, junior Dasean Peters-Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) with a time of 11.13 in the 100 and freshman Joshua Cardichon (Brockton, Mass.) with a time of 22.39 seconds in the 200.
Sophomore Kaelan McDonald (Washington, Conn.) finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 112 feet, four inches (34.24m) and was fourth in the javelin (155'3"/47.33m).
The BSU 'A' 4x400 relay team of senior Stephen Spofford (Chelmsford, Mass.), McBirney, senior Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) and Grace was second in 3:26.64.
Prior to the start of the meet, the Bears held Senior Day festivities as Adigwe, Dakai, Geoffrey Doyon (North Attleboro, Mass.), Goodwin, Matias, McBirney, Spofford and Stalters were honored.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 19 at the Tufts Sunshine Classic.
