BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third straight week and fourth time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Kevin McBirney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
McBirney earned All-New England honors in the 800-meter run this past weekend at the Division III New England Championships held at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. The East Bridgewater, Massachusetts product placed third in the 800 with a career-best time of 1:51.59 as he helped the Bears finish 11th in the team standings at the meet with 23 points.
McBirney currently ranks 25th in all of Division III in the 800 and seventh in the East Region.
The MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week honor marks the 17th of McBirney's career including eight outdoor distinctions. He has also earned MASCAC Runner of the Week accolades nine times over the past two cross country seasons.
Qualifying members of the BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete on Friday and Saturday at the NEICAAA Championships hosted by UMass Amherst.
