MEDFORD, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore Drew Alves competed in the heptathlon during day one of the Division III New England Championships on Friday at Tufts University.
Following the conclusion of Friday's four events, Alves is in tenth place out of a field of 14 heptathletes with a score of 2,253 points.
Alves top event on Friday was the 60-meter dash as he placed fifth with a time of 7.36 seconds to notch 759 points. The Taunton, Massachusetts product also tallied 619 points in the high jump (5'10.5"/1.79m), 512 points in the long jump (18'6.5"/5.65m) and 363 points in the shot put (26'0.75"/7.94m). He tied for fourth in the high jump and finished 13th in the long jump and 12th in the shot put.
Alves recorded a PR in the long jump.
Senior Christian Burke of the University of Southern Maine is in first place in the heptathlon after four events with 2,717 points. Senior Joseph Kuoame-Waldman of Williams College and sophomore Dylan Moreno of Tufts round out the top three in the standings with 2,535 points and 2,514 points, respectively.
The heptathlon concludes on Saturday (11:00 AM) with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run.
