BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the seventh time this season, Bridgewater State University graduate student Kevin McBirney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
McBirney captured top honors in the 800-meter run this past weekend at the Tufts Final Qualifier with a time of 1:51.98. The East Bridgewater, Massachusetts product's winning time, converted to 1:50.41 for track size, is tied for sixth in all of Division III as he earned a spot at the NCAA Division III Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
The MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week honor marks the 24th of McBirney's career including 15 indoor distinctions. He has also earned MASCAC Runner of the Week accolades nine times as a cross country student-athlete.
McBirney will compete in the preliminaries of the 800 at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday afternoon (5:00 PM EDT) at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
