Ackroyd Leads Men's Cross Country at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's cross country team competed on Saturday at the 52nd Annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational. The meet featured teams from all three NCAA divisions.

Senior Kyle Ackroyd (Charlestown, R.I.) was the Bears' top harrier as he completed the eight-kilometer course in a career-best time of 25:29.82 to place 35th out of a field of 253 runners.

Senior Liam Lyons (Irvington, N.Y.) of Division I Holy Cross won the race with a time of 24:07.69.

The Bears finished 18th in the team standings. Boston University captured the team title followed by UMass Lowell in second place and Brown University in third.

Graduate student Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and senior Mitchell Parent (Cumberland, Maine) rounded out Bridgewater's top three runners at the meet. McBirney was the next Bear to cross the finish line as he placed 39th with a time of 25:36.05, while Parent posted a time of 27:16.38 to finish 124th overall.

The Bears are off until Saturday, October 4th when they travel to Keene, New Hampshire for the Keene State Invitational.
