Box Score

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College women's lacrosse team set the NCAA record for assists and points in a game, and senior midfielder Shannon Manning (Framingham, MA) became BSC's all-time scoring leader, as the Bears downed Elms College, 26-1, this afternoon in Chicopee.

Bridgewater improves to 9-4 overall on the season and 3-1 in the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA). Elms drops to 0-11 and 0-4 in NEWLA play.

Bridgewater notched 26 assists in the game, breaking their own NCAA record of 24 assists set during a 26-3 win over Becker College in 2008.  The Bears also totalled 52 points as they eclipsed their own scoring mark of 50 points set against Becker.

Manning finished with five goals and eight assists as she tied the Bears' single-game scoring mark with 13 points.  The record was originally set by Paula Habel in 2002 and equaled by junior attack Jenny Jones (Framingham, MA) just last season.

Manning's 13 points increased her career total to 342 (208 goals, 134 assists) as she surpassed Habel's career scoring mark of 336 points set back in 2003.

Bridgewater State raced out to a 7-0 lead in the opening 7:02 on the strength of three scores from Manning and two from Jones.

Jones scored twice more, Manning added her fourth goal of the period, and Kristin White (Pelham, MA) struck for a pair of goals to help lift the Bears to a 17-0 advantage at halftime.

Sophomore midfielder Chelsey Grabowski (South Hadley, MA) got Elms on the board with 27:46 remaining in the second frame but nine more goals, including two from Courtney Lennon (Medfield, MA) and one more each from Jones, Manning and White, helped pace Bridgewater State to its 26-1 victory.

Jones finished with four goals and three assists, while Katie DeMaio (Port Jeffereson Station, NY), Lennon and White found the back of the net three times apiece. DeMaio also assisted on five scores and collected a game-best five groundballs. Patricia Maloney (Walpole, MA) tallied a game-high six draw controls in the winning effort, while Jones and Erin Quimby (Chelmsford, MA) notched three helpers each.

Elms’ sophomore midfielder Kim Jodoin (Pittsfield, MA) scooped a team-high four groundballs in the loss, while junior goalkeeper Jennifer Lough (Feeding Hills, MA) notched 13 saves.

BSC senior netminder Meghan Griffin (Billerica, MA) recorded her 32nd win in goal for the Bears, as she moves closer to Jo-Elllen Murgo's (1998-2000) school mark of 34 goaltending victories.
