Kate Fitzpatrick Named MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman midfielder Kate Fitzpatrick has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week.

A native of Methuen, Massachusetts, Fitzpatrick tallied five goals and two assists for seven points to go along with six ground balls, four draw controls and four caused turnovers in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears.

Fitzpatrick netted a hat trick with an assist three ground balls, two draw controls and three caused turnovers in a 16-4 MASCAC win over Fitchburg State. She also notched a pair of goals and an assist as well as three ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover in a 14-7 conference victory over Mass. Maritime.

Through 15 games this season, Fitzpatrick has amassed 14 goals and seven assists for 21 points in addition to 31 ground balls, 18 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers. She is presentlt tide for sixth among the MASCAC leaders in caused turnovers and tied for ninth in ground balls.

The MASCAC Rookie of the Week honor marks the first of Fitzpatrick's career. She is the Bears' first rookie of the week since teammate Sara Skaff (Lowell, Mass.) earned the honor twice last season.

The BSU women's lacrosse team is currently 5-10 on the season and 3-2 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears entertain conference foe Salem State University tonight at seven o'clock.
