By Jim Fenton

WORCESTER, Mass. -- For the first time in just about three years, the Bridgewater State University women's soccer team lost a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season game.

The Bears were edged by first-place Worcester State University, 1-0, at Coughlin Field on Saturday night.

It marks BSU's first regular-season conference loss since Oct. 15, 2022 when the Bears were defeated at Westfield State University, 2-0.

BSU had gone 18-0-2 in 20 straight MASCAC regular-season games before losing to the Lancers.

The Bears are now 3-6-2 and 3-1-1 in the conference while Worcester State improved to 7-3-1 and 5-0 in the MASCAC.

The only goal of the game was scored 1:56 into the first half by junior Amanda Cosco (Watertown, Mass.).

Her shot from the top of the 18 went into the top left side of the net off a restart.

Worcester State held a 27-13 edge in overall shots and a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.

BSU senior goalkeeper Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) made nine saves.

Lancers junior Ella Gumienny (Douglas, Mass.) had five saves.

BSU's top scorer, Olivia Robarge (Pepperell, Mass.) had three of her team's five shots on goal.

The Bears will be home on Wednesday night to face Connecticut College in a non-conference game at 7 p.m.

Worcester State travels to Roger Williams for a 4 p.m. game on Wednesday.
