SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team opened the two-day Division III New England Championships on Friday.

Freshman Savana Malo (Milford, Mass.) was the lone competitor for the Bears on the first day.

Malo placed 24th in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 3.5 inches (4.66m).

On Saturday, three BSU sophomores will be taking part in the New Englands at Springfield College's Blake Track.

Sophomore Bella Grover (Warren, Mass.) will be in the high jump at 11 a.m. as well as the 400-meter hurdles at 2:15 p.m.

Sophomore Grace Inacio (Taunton, Mass.) will run in the 200-meter race at 2:45 p.m.

Sophomore Jane Sitek Shaver (Burlington, Vt.) competes in the discus at noon.
