Nick Berube Named MASCAC Baseball Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman shortstop Nick Berube has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Rookie of the Week.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman shortstop Nick Berube has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Rookie of the Week.
A native of Swampscott, Massachusetts, Berube batted .500 (7-14) with a double, a pair of stolen bases, a sacrifice bunt, a hit by pitch, six runs and three RBI in four games for the Bears last week. He also posted a .533 on base percentage, and flawlessly recorded 13 chances (five putouts, eight assists) at shortstop.
Berube went 4-for-8 with a stolen base, four runs and two RBI in a pair of MASCAC wins over Framingham State; and 3-for-6 with a double, a sacrifice bunt, a stolen base, two runs and an RBI in a conference sweep of Mass. Maritime
In 15 games in his first season with the Bears, Berube is batting .291 (16-55) with four doubles, three walks, four stolen bases, 12 runs and 12 RBI. He has also been hit by a pitch twice, has three sacrifice bunts and checks in with a .350 on base percentage.
The MASCAC Rookie of the Week accolade marks the first of Berube's career.
Winners of eight straight games, the BSU baseball team is currently 13-5 on the season and 8-1 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears host a conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon against Salem State University with game one of the twinbill getting underway at three o'clock.
