Ryan Flaherty Named MASCAC Baseball Player of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior third baseman Ryan Flaherty has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Player of the Week.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior third baseman Ryan Flaherty has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Player of the Week.
A native of Duxbury, Massachusetts, Flaherty batted .526 (10-19) in a perfect 5-0 week for the Bears with two home runs, a pair of doubles, two sacrifice flies, three walks, seven runs and 12 RBI. He also posted a .947 slugging percentage.
Flaherty went 3-for-5 with two home runs, a sacrifice fly, two walks, two runs and six RBI in a MASCAC doubleheader sweep of Mass. Maritime; and 7-for-14 with two doubles, a sacrifice fly, a walk, five runs and six RBI as the Bears swept a three-game conference set with Framingham State
Through 18 games this season, Flaherty is batting .424 (28-66) with five doubles, three home runs, 11 walks, 17 runs and 23 RBI. He also checks in with a .487 on base percentage as well as a .636 slugging percentage.
Flaherty currently leads the MASCAC in RBI and is tied for the conference lead in sacrifice flies (3). He also ranks third in slugging percentage; fourth in total bases (42) and home runs; fifth in extra base hits (8); sixth in hits, on base percentage and doubles; seventh in batting; and eighth in runs.
In 105 games over three seasons with the Bears, Flaherty has a career batting average of .344 (135-393) with 25 doubles, 26 home runs, 57 walks, 97 runs and 132 RBI. He also checks in with a career slugging percentage of .606 as well as a .424 on base percentage.
Flaherty ranks third on the Bears' all-time home run list, trailing only John Kiely (29, 1986-87) and Jay Doherty (27, 1989-92). He is also third all-time in runs batted in.
The MASCAC Player of the Week accolade marks the second of Flaherty's career.
Winners of eight straight games, the BSU baseball team is currently 13-5 on the season and 8-1 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears host a conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon against Salem State University with game one of the twinbill getting underway at three o'clock.
