BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior wide receiver Matt Green has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week.
Green caught six passes for 202 yards and a school record five touchdowns in the Bears’ 51-20 inaugural MASCAC win over Worcester State University this past weekend. The Stoughton, Massachusetts native hauled in scoring strikes of 39 and six yards in the second quarter, a 30-yard touchdown in the third, and back-to-back 60-yard scores in the fourth quarter.
Green eclipsed the previous school mark of four receiving touchdowns set by BSU Hall of Famer Andy Macaione versus MIT in 1998 and equaled by Ben Bascon against Salve Regina University in 2004. He also tied the program mark for touchdowns in a game which is shared by Steve Marshall (1990 vs. Westfield State) and Justin Fuller (2009 vs. Maine Maritime).
Green's 202 receiving yards is also the highest single-game total for the Bears since Bascon finished with 204 yards against Mass. Maritime Academy in 2005.
In three games this season, Green has registered 18 receptions for 432 yards and seven touchdowns as he leads the MASCAC in all three categories as well as yards per catch (24.0) and scoring (42 pts.). He also leads all of Division III in receiving touchdowns and ranks second in receiving yards and seventh in scoring.
In 23 games over three seasons with the Bears, Green has amassed 54 receptions for 982 yards and 13 touchdowns. He led the team in 2012 with 32 catches for 482 yards and six touchdowns.
The BSU football team is presently 2-1 on the season with a 1-0 MASCAC mark. The Bears travel to Fitchburg State University on Saturday afternoon for a 1:30 conference game with the Falcons.
