Eddie Jewel Named to Pair of Preseason All-America Teams

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior safety Eddie Jewel has been honored as a second team selection on the 25th Annual USA College Football Division III Pre-Season All-America Team and a third team honoree on the 2013 Beyond Sports Network Division III Football Pre-Season All-America Team.

In 21 games over two seasons with the Bears, Jewel has amassed 81 tackles (61 solo), four tackles for loss, a sack, nine interceptions and five pass breakups.  He has also recovered three fumbles and forced one.  His lone career touchdown came on a 67-yard fumble return in a 34-16 win over Coast Guard back in 2012.

Last season, Jewel registered career highs with 48 tackles, six interceptions and five pass breakups as he helped lead the BSU football team to a 9-2 record and a 6-1 mark in the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division.  The Bears, by virtue of an at large selection, made their first appearance in the NCAA Division III Football Tournament since the 2000 season.

Jewel, who transferred to Bridgewater State from Division I (FCS) Monmouth University, made his second straight appearance on the NEFC All-Bogan Team in 2013 as he garnered first team honors.
