Rob Ruggiero Named MASCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior defensive end Rob Ruggiero has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Defensive Player of the Week.

Ruggiero notched four solo tackles including an impressive three sacks in the Bears’ 51-20 inaugural MASCAC win over Worcester State University this past weekend.  The Acton, Massachusetts native also forced and recovered a fumble and broke up two passes.

In his first season with the Bears since transferring from Springfield College, Ruggiero has amassed 13 tackles (nine solo) over three games with 7 ½ going for loss.  He also has 4 ½ sacks to his credit.  Ruggiero is tied for the conference lead in sacks and ranks second in tackles for loss.  He is also tied for 22nd in all of Division III in tackles for loss.

The BSU football team is presently 2-1 on the season with a 1-0 MASCAC mark. The Bears travel to Fitchburg State University on Saturday afternoon for a 1:30 conference game with the Falcons.
