Stephen Jacobs Named MASCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University senior linebacker Stephen Jacobs has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Defensive Player of the Week.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University senior linebacker Stephen Jacobs has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Defensive Player of the Week.
A native of Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, Jacobs recorded a career-high 16 tackles (11 solo) including 3 1/2 tackles for loss and 1 1/2 sacks in the Bears' 27-19 MASCAC win over UMass Dartmouth.
Jacobs anchored a defensive unit that limited the Corsairs to 278 yards of total offense including 177 rushing yards. UMass entered the game averaging over 500 yards of total offense (502.6) and 339.6 rushing yards.
Through six games this season, Jacobs has tallied a team-leading 44 tackles (27 solo) with 7 1/2 going for loss and 2 1/2 sacks. He also has a pair of pass breakups, a forced and recovered fumble and a blocked kick.
In 25 games over three seasons with the Bears, Jacobs has amassed 156 tackles (111 solo) with 5 1/2 sacks and 23 1/2 tackles for loss to go along with an interception and three pass breakups.
The BSU football team has won four straight games and is currently 4-2 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in the MASCAC. The Bears, who sit alone atop the conference standings, host Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff for the "Homecoming Game" is slated for 4:00 PM.
