Nicholas Motta Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior forward Nicholas Motta has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his performance at the Christopher Newport University Captains Shootout.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior forward Nicholas Motta has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his performance at the Christopher Newport University Captains Shootout.
A native of Fairhaven, Massachusetts, Motta averaged 19.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.0 steals as the Bears went 1-1 at the tournament. He also shot 54% (14-26) from the floor and 50% (5-10) from three-point range.
Motta, who was named to the all-tournament team, tallied 20 points, eight boards, and three steals in an 88-78 semifinal loss to Wesley College, and 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block in an 87-82 win over Frostburg State University.
Through ten games this season, Motta is averaging 16.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.7 steals while shooting 56% (60-107) from the floor and 51% (19-37) from behind the arc.
Motta ranks 22nd all-time at Bridgewater State in scoring as he has racked up 1,118 points over four seasons with the Bears. In 86 career games, he is averaging 13.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals.
Motta has earned MASCAC Player of the Week honors seven times in his career with five of those coming during his impressive junior campaign of 2009-2010. Last season he was named to the NABC Division III All-Northeast Region Second Team, the D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region Second Team and the ECAC Division III All-New England Second Team. He was also selected to the All-MASCAC First Team and was chosen as the conference player of the year.
