Ryan Carney Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman guard Ryan Carney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

Carney averaged 10.5 points and shot 56.3% (9-16) from the floor in a 1-1 week for the Bears. The Easton, Massachusetts product tallied 13 points in 15 minutes off the bench in an 85-65 setback to UMass Dartmouth. He also notched eight points, two rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot in 20 minutes off the bench in a 73-66 victory over Wheaton College.

In seven games this season, Carney is averaging 5.7 points and 1.6 rebounds a game while shooting 42% (15-36) from the floor and 75% (6-8) at the free throw line.

The BSU men's basketball team is currently 3-5 on the season. The Bears are off until later in the month when they compete at the Land of Magic Classic hosted by Embry-Riddle University in Daytona, Florida. Bridgewater takes on Brockport State on December, 28th (5:00 PM) and John Carroll on December 30th (1:00 PM).
