Jonathan Mercado Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University freshman guard Jonathan Mercado has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week.

Mercado, who hails from Lynn, Massachusetts, scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting (62.5%) to go along with five assists, two steals and a rebound in the Bears’ 85-79 come-from-behind win over Becker College last week.

In ten games this season, Mercado is averaging 4.8 points and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 46.3% (19-41) from the floor. He currently ranks sixth among the MASCAC leaders in assists.

The BSU men’s basketball team is presently 5-6 on the season. The Bears are off until Thursday, January 4th when they entertain the Beacons of UMass Boston at 7:30 PM.
