Rayshon Ward Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University sophomore forward Rayshon Ward has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University sophomore forward Rayshon Ward has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Ward averaged 22.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and a steal in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bears last week while shooting 53% (26-49) from the floor and 56% (9-16) from three-point range.
Ward posted a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds to go along with seven assists and a steal in an 82-68 win over UMass Boston. He also notched 25 points, three boards, three assists and a pair of steals in an 82-71 MASCAC victory over MCLA, and 22 points, nine rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot in an 84-44 conference win on the road over Westfield State University.
Through 15 games this season, Ward is averaging 16.3 points and 6.9 rebounds, while shooting 53% (90-169) from the floor, 43% (16-37) from behind the arc and 74% (48-65) at the charity stripe. He ranks second in the MASCAC in three-point shooting as well as fourth in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage. Ward is also eighth in the conference in free throw shooting.
In 41 games over his first two seasons at Bridgewater State, Ward has amassed 314 points, 148 rebounds, 50 assists, 26 steals and 15 blocks.
Winners of five straight games, the BSU men’s basketball team is currently 9-6 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in the MASCAC. The conference schedule continues on Wednesday night when the Bears travel to Salem State University for a 7:30 game with the Vikings.
