Men's Track & Field Competes at Tufts & Emory

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team competed at a pair of meets on Saturday.

Four Bears were in events during day two of the Emory Thrills in the Hills in Atlanta, Georgia while the majority of the team competed at the Tufts Snowflake Classic.

Senior Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) placed fifth in the the 110-meter hurdles at Emory with a finals time of 15.42 seconds. Adigwe also posted a preliminary time of 15.36 seconds.

Freshman Alex Huynh (Stoughton, Mass.), senior Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and sophomore Matthew Mooney Douglas, Mass.) also competed down in Atlanta on Saturday. Huynh placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 4.5 inches (6.82m), while McBirney finished eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.51. Mooney notched a time of 11.05 seconds (5th place) in the qualifying round of the 100-meter dash.

At Tufts, junior Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.), sophomore Nathan Branco (Fairhaven, Mass.) and junior Dasean Peters-Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) each won events. King captured top honors in the 110-meter hurdles with a PR of 15.61 seconds, while Branco recorded a personal-best time of 58.35 seconds to win the 400-meter hurdles. Peters-Wolfe placed first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.49 seconds.

Graduate student Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) placed second in the 100 (11.50) and third in the 200-meter dash (22.91).

Senior Kenny Goodwin (Chelmsford, Mass.) and junior Mitchell Parent (Cumberland Center, Maine) placed second and fifth, respectively, in the 5,000-meter run. Goodwin crossed the finish line in a PR time of 15:56.45 while Parent recorded a personal-best time of 16:19.36.

Junior Chris Beaulieu (Monson, Mass.) placed second in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 6.25 inches (6.25m) while sophomore Jasen Jean-Louis (Framingham, Mass.) was fourth in the long jump with a PR of 20 feet, 2.50 inches (6.16m).

Freshman Drew Alves (Taunton, Mass.) checked in at third in the triple jump (38'11.75"/11.88m) in his first collegiate outdoor meet, and senior Stephen Spofford (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (51.64).

Junior Kyle Ackroyd (CHarlestown, R.I.) placed fifth in the 10,000-meter run as he recorded a personal-best time of 32:29.89.

The Bears finished second in the team standings at the Tufts Snowflake Classic with 101 points.

Next Saturday, the Bears will head to Amherst College for the Amherst Spring Fling.
