Men's Track & Field Wins Five Individual Events at BSU Bears Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Five members of the Bridgewater State University men's outdoors track & field team won individual events at the BSU Bears Invitational Friday.

The Bears hosted the five-team meet at Mazzaferro Field on Senior Day in their lone home competition of the season.

Leading the way for BSU was junior Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.), who was first in a pair of events.

Also finishing first for the Bears sophomore Joshua Cardichon (Brockton, Mass.), senior Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.), junior Aydan Fournier (Assonet, Mass.) and senior Mitchell Parent (Cumberland Center, Maine).

Mooney topped the field in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.03 seconds, and four of his teammates were in the top 10.

Senior Dasean Peters-Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) was second in 11.08 while graduate student Landon Crowley (West Bridgewater, Mass.) finished fourth in 11.12, junior Zachary Feist (Stoughton, Mass.) came in sixth in 11.29 and senior Javon Epps (Brockton, Mass.) took 10th in 11.42.

Mooney was also the winner in the 200 with a time of 22.15 seconds.

Four other BSU sprinters were in the top 10, including Peters-Wolfe, who was second with a PR of 22.20, Crowley, who was third in 22.29, Cardichon, who placed fourth in 22.36, and Feist, who was ninth in a PR of 22.89.

Beaulieu was second in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.48 seconds and three of his teammates were in the top seven.

Sophomore Drew Alves (Taunton, Mass.) finished fourth in 16.55 followed by junior Ryan McCarthy (Weymouth, Mass.), who was fifth in a PR of 17.44, and freshman Evan Young (Winchendon, Mass.), who took seventh in 18.86.

Cardichon was the winner in the 400-meter race with a time of 51.15 seconds, leading a BSU sweep of the top three spots.

Beaulieu was second in 51.40 and freshman Sean Venator (Manchester, N.H.) took third in 51.46.

Grace led the way in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 41 feet, 6.5 inches (12.66m) with two teammates in the top five.

Freshman John Duffy (Franklin, Mass.) placed third with a personal-best jump of 40 feet, 7.5 inches (12.38m) while freshman Jaiden Jackson (Newton, Mass.) was fifth with a PR of 39 feet, 11.25 inches (12.17m).

Fournier was the winner in the 800 with a time of 1:54.79.

Also in the top five were his teammates, junior Brian Vale (Assonet, Mass.), who was second in 2:03.70, and sophomore Noah Johnson (Templeton, Mass.), who was fifth in a PR of 2:03.72.

Parent won the 1,500-meter race in 4:19.77 as the Bears had the top three finishers. Parent was also seventh in the 800 with a PR of 2:06.07.

Senior Kyle Ackroyd (Charlestown, R.I.) was second in the 1,500 in 4:22.86 and freshman Tyler Amaral (Dartmouth, Mass.) finished third in a PR of 4:23.88.

BSU's 'A' 4x400 relay team won in a time of 3:24.88. The group included Beaulieu, Grace, Fournier and freshman Sean Venator (Manchester, N.H.).

Junior Kaelan McDonald (Washington, Conn.) finished second in the javelin (163'1"/49.71) and fifth in the discus (119'2"/36.31m). McDonald's mark in the discus marked a personal-best.

Senior Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) was second in the pole vault (11'7.75"/3.55m) and fourth in the javelin (149'10"/45.67m).

Freshman Clayton Pastor Norales (New Bedford, Mass.) was second in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 1.25 inches (6.43m) and Alves finished third in the pole vault with a height of 10 feet, 8 inches (3.25m) and freshman Christopher Williams (Burlington, Mass.) was third in the shot put with a personal-best heave of 45 feet, 5.25 inches (13.85m).

Senior Colin Daly (Easton, Mass.) took fourth in the hammer throw (134'2"/40.89m).

McCarthy was fifth in the pole vault with a height of nine feet, 8.25 inches (2.95m) and fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.94 while freshman Gavin McElwee (Halifax, Mass.) was fifth in the javelin (142'11"/43.55m).

Former BSU track & field athletes also competed as BSU Alumni and two were winners.

Corey Stalters, now a Bears' assistant coach, won the javelin while Chigozie Adigwe, whose career ended with the indoor season, won the 110 hurdles and was fifth in the high jump.

Jacob DeAndrade, Kevin McBirney, Adigwe and Mason Matias ran in the 4x400 relay race and placed second.

Joining the Bears in the meet were the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Curry, Wentworth and Regis.

Prior to the meet, BSU seniors were honored, a group that includes Ackroyd, Beaulieu, Crowley, Daly, Epps, Joseph Garell (Swansea, Mass.), Grace, Roody Jean-Louis (Roxbury, Mass.), King, Parent and Peters-Wolfe.

The Bears will take part in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, April 25. The meet starts at 10 a.m. and will be hosted by Fitchburg State University.

BSU has won seven outdoor titles in a row.
