Tim Ferreira Named Head Wrestling Coach

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University Director of Athletics, John Harper, announced today that former BSU standout grappler Tim Ferreira has been named as the Bears head wrestling coach.  Ferreira replaces Jason York who resigned following the 2011-2012 campaign after four seasons guiding the program.

“I am really excited to welcome Tim Ferreira back into the Bears’ wrestling family,” said Harper.  “He was an outstanding competitor and student but, of greatest importance to me, he was an excellent leader.” 

“Tim will fit in very well with our student-athletes as well as with our professional staff,” Harper added, “and I look for his teams to grow and improve both on the mat and in the classroom.”

A native of Danbury, Connecticut, Tim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Bridgewater State in 2009.   He spent three seasons on the Bears’ coaching staff from 2008 to 2011 before serving one season as an assistant for the Roger Williams University wrestling program.

While at Bridgewater State, Tim competed on the wrestling team for four seasons from 2004 to 2008.  He ranks fourth all-time at Bridgewater in wins with 104 and was a three-time Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) All-Star as well as a two-time New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) All-Conference selection.  In 2007, Tim was a NEWA finalist out of the heavyweight class.

“I am truly honored to be given the opportunity to lead this program,” said Ferreira.  “I have a tremendous amount of pride in this university and I look forward to continuing the success that coaches before me have built.”

Coach Ferreira presently resides in Newport, Rhode Island.
