Oberlander Leads Wrestling at Jim Aguiar Invitational

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Henry Oberlander (Mansfield, Mass.) placed second competing out of the 197-pound weight class to lead the Bridgewater State University wrestling team at the Jim Aguiar Invitational hosted by Plymouth State University on Saturday at the Bank of New Hampshire Field House.

The Bears placed fifth (49 pts.) out of 12 teams at the tournament.

Oberlander went 3-1 on the day including an 8-1 victory over Jack Rogers of Roger Williams University and a 6-2 decision over Lucas Morse of Castleton University. After earning a medical forfeit win in the semifinals, Oberlander dropped a 9-2 decision to nationally ranked Jon Wagner (#5) of Coast Guard Academy in the championship bout.

Junior Fox Maxwell (Winchester, Mass.) recorded a 4-1 mark and finished in third place out of the 165-pounde weight class. Maxwell won each of his first two bouts by pin before falling to Nick Moreno of Coast Guard in the semifinals. Maxwell earned a 16-0 technical fall victory in the consolation semifinals against Hunter Goodrow of Roger Williams and then won by forfeit in the third-place match.

Junior 174-pounder David MacNeil (Woburn, Mass.) and sophomore heavyweight Joseph Munro (Norwood, Mass.) also finished in third place in their respective weight classes. MacNeil went 2-1 in his season debut with an 8-2 decision over Mannash Carlson of New England College in the third place match. Munro posted a 4-1 record including a pair of wins by fall over Brady Gebo of Maine Maritime Academy and Mason Osborn of Castleton to open the tournament. After falling to nationally ranked Patrick Irwin (#4) of Coast Guard in the semifinals, Munro notched back-to-back 3-2 decisions in the consolation round versus Francis Boahen of NEC and Thomas Sidener of Coast Guard to place third.

The Bears are off until Sunday, January 19th when they compete at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual Meet Tournament hosted by Johnson & Wales University.
