Hope Montgomery Named MASCAC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University freshman defender Hope Montgomery has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University freshman defender Hope Montgomery has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week.
Making her 17th and 18th starts of the season, Montgomery was an integral part of the BSU defensive effort during the Bears' MASCAC Tournament title run. She helped limit Fitchburg State to just four shots on goal in a 3-1 semifinal round triumph over the Falcons; and Westfield State to eight shots on goal in a 3-2 championship game victory over the Owls as the Bears earned their first conference title since 2013 and fouth in program history. The BSU defense also held the MASCAC leading scorer to just one shot on net in the championship game win.
In 19 games this season (18 starts), Montgomery has dished out a pair of assists. She has been a key part of a Bears' defensive unt which has recorded six shutouts and has limited opponents to 7.4 shots on goal per game.
The BSU women's soccer team is currently 12-4-3 on the season. The Bears will compete in the NCAA Division III Tournament later this week for the first time since 2013 and fourth time in program history. Tournament pairings will be announced later this afternoon.
