BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fifth time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Kiara Abrantes has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Abrantes captured top honors in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.57 seconds this past weekend at the Saucony Battle For Boston held at Boston University. The meet featured predominantly Division I and track club athletes. She was less than a tenth of a second off her school indoor record time of 55.49 seconds set earlier this season at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic.
Abrantes currently ranks sixth in all of Division III in the 400 and second in the East Region. She is also 11th in the 200-meter dash and 15th in the 60-meter dash (first in the East Region for both events).
The MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week honor marks the 20th of Abrantes' career and 14th indoor distinction.
Qualifying members of the BSU women's indoor track & field team will compete on Sunday at the Division III New England Championships held at The Track at New Balance.
