BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week and sixth time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Kiara Abrantes has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
A native of Somerset, Massachusetts, Abrantes garnered All-New England honors while setting school records in both the 400-meter dash and 200-meter dash this past weekend at the Division III New England Championships held at The Track at New Balance.
Abrantes placed second in the 400 with a time of 55.24 seconds as she eclipsed her own indoor standard of 55.49 set earlier this season at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic. She also placed fourth in the 200 with a time of 24.66 seconds eclipsing the previous indoor mark of 24.68 she co-held with sophomore teammate Grace Inacio (Taunton, Mass.).
Abrantes currently ranks fifth in all of Division III in the 400 (second in the East Region) and 17th in the 200 (fourth in the East Region).
The MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week honor marks the 21st of Abrantes' career and 15th indoor distinction.
Qualifying members of the BSU women's indoor track & field team will compete on Friday and Saturday at the NEICAAA Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center.
