Lily Welch Named MASCAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore middle hitter Lily Welch has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.

A native of Hanson, Massachusetts, Welch notched 20 kills with a .333 hitting percentage, five aces, 24 digs and seven blocks (two solo) in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears.

Welch tallied four kills, three aces, 11 digs and two solo blocks in a 3-0 win on the road over Curry College, and recorded a career-high 16 kills to go along with a pair of aces, 13 digs and a career-best five assisted blocks in a 3-2 victory at Mitchell College.

Through ten matches this season, Welch has amassed 79 kills, 12 aces, 175 receptions, 100 digs and 16 blocks (four solo). She presently ranks tenth among the MASCAC leaders in both kills and hitting percentage (.187).

In 27 matches over her first two seasons with the Bears, Welch has produced 195 kills, 18 aces, 239 receptions, 156 digs and 41 blocks (16 solo).

The MASCAC weekly honor marks the first of Welch's career.

The BSU volleyball team is currently 4-6 on the season. The Bears open MASCAC play on Tuesday evening when they travel to Framingham State University for a six o'clock match with the Rams.
